Summary

From the New York Times bestselling author of How to Be a Bawse comes an "insightful and charmingly funny" (Rupi Kaur) primer on learning to come home to your truest and happiest self。

"I love Lilly's honest and helpful advice about achieving happiness。"--Mindy Kaling, #1 New York Times bestselling author of Why Not Me?

"It's time to flip right side up。 It's time for this book title to make sense。 It's time to be a triangle。"

Everyone--even world-famous actress, author, and creator Lilly Singh--knows that sometimes life just sucks。 In this book, Singh provides a safe space where readers can learn how to create a sense of peace within themselves。 Without sugarcoating what it's like to face adversity--including acknowledging her own intensely personal struggles with identity, success, and self-doubt--Singh teaches readers to "unsubscribe" from cookie-cutter ideals。

With her signature blend of vulnerability, insight, and humor, Singh instructs readers to "be a triangle," creating a solid foundation for your life, one that can be built upon, but never fundamentally changed or destroyed。 As she puts it, we must always find a way to come home to ourselves: "we must create a place, a system of beliefs, a simple set of priorities to come back to should life lead us astray, which it definitely will。"

Like a wise, empathetic friend who always keeps you honest, Singh pushes you to adjust your mindset and change your internal dialogue。 The result is a deeply humane, entertaining, and uplifting guide to befriending yourself and becoming a true "miracle for the world。"

Like many of us, comedian, actress, and writer Lilly Singh had to take a long look at her priorities and needs during the pandemic。 In this short and sweet book, she mixes humor, real talk, and helpful tips for being your best self no matter how much stress the world hands you。 She tells readers to be a triangle: develop a sturdy base to keep you grounded。 I really enjoyed Singh's narrative voice, and her advice is relatable and encouraging。 I just wish this book was longer! This book was short and sweet。 I really like the way it was written。 Some books that claim to teach readers how to create peace within themselves and not to pay too much mind to the what they should do in terms of ideals can sound preachy or boring。This author mixed humor that was actually funny with unpretentious wisdom。 She stressed the importance of meditation as well as having a strong foundation。 I’m not too into self help books but this was entertaining, easy to read, and easy to understan This book was short and sweet。 I really like the way it was written。 Some books that claim to teach readers how to create peace within themselves and not to pay too much mind to the what they should do in terms of ideals can sound preachy or boring。This author mixed humor that was actually funny with unpretentious wisdom。 She stressed the importance of meditation as well as having a strong foundation。 I’m not too into self help books but this was entertaining, easy to read, and easy to understand。 There are a few diagrams that help as well。Thank you to Kathleen Quinlan, Netgalley, and the publisher for this arc in exchange for my honest review。 。。。more

Thank you to Random House/Ballantine Books and to NetGalley for an advance reader copy of this book!Quick confession… I did not know who Lilly Singh was when I read the description of this book。 For those of us with anxiety and bouts of sucky moments in our lives I was really curious how Lilly had formed her life to take shape and overcome these issues。 I was so pleasantly surprised! It’s not a one size fits all type of guide that blows smoke your way and as Lilly puts it, an “LA juice diet” fad Thank you to Random House/Ballantine Books and to NetGalley for an advance reader copy of this book!Quick confession… I did not know who Lilly Singh was when I read the description of this book。 For those of us with anxiety and bouts of sucky moments in our lives I was really curious how Lilly had formed her life to take shape and overcome these issues。 I was so pleasantly surprised! This is a book I would certainly read again and again! It’s about finding a safe place for yourself, letting go of what you think you should do。 The author talks about meditation which I firmly believe is a great help。I voluntarily read and reviewed an advance copy of this book。 All thoughts and opinions are my own。

Be a triangle is about having a strong foundation so that the ups and downs of everyday life can't affect the foundation of who you are。 Lilly Singh shares a short but clear message on how to create our firm foundation。 Her advice is communicated clearly and with wit。 The tone of the book is light and was easy to read and enjoy。 If someone is looking for a book to uplift them and point them in a healthy direction this book is a great place to start。 Both meditation and checking in with yourself Be a triangle is about having a strong foundation so that the ups and downs of everyday life can't affect the foundation of who you are。 Lilly Singh shares a short but clear message on how to create our firm foundation。 Her advice is communicated clearly and with wit。 The tone of the book is light and was easy to read and enjoy。 If someone is looking for a book to uplift them and point them in a healthy direction this book is a great place to start。 Both meditation and checking in with yourself are important suggestions the author share。 She also talks about not letting distractions get in the way of our gratitude。 For me, this was my favorite chapter and is something that I will take away from this book。 Thank you Netgalley and Ballantine Books for the arc。 。。。more

Thank you to Lilly Singh for writing a personal set of reflections that were about you and were you are in this journey that I think a lot of women in particular are on。。。 how to live a fulfilling life for ourselves, not just doing what we think others want or engaging in what turn out to be superficial acts of accomplishment that feel empty。 I appreciate the gifted ebook from Ballantine/Random House via NetGalley。 I laughed a few times at the stories, self humor, and the illustrations in partic Thank you to Lilly Singh for writing a personal set of reflections that were about you and were you are in this journey that I think a lot of women in particular are on。。。 how to live a fulfilling life for ourselves, not just doing what we think others want or engaging in what turn out to be superficial acts of accomplishment that feel empty。 I appreciate the gifted ebook from Ballantine/Random House via NetGalley。 I laughed a few times at the stories, self humor, and the illustrations in particular, this is the way I often talk to my friends, students, and well in my running monologue on life in my head。 What is the title about? The premise for me was well not fitting oneself into a box! and also having a stable foundation for understanding who you are and, for me, also a stable foundation that can weather the distractions that come at us。 For me the section on distractions that take you away from how you want to experience your day, life, career, friendships。, etc, was really insightful and valuable。 I appreciated how she wrote about a time when she was feeling grateful and then a few moments in time interrupted that feeling, took her away from it, and she realized that she wanted back to the grateful, away from the distractions created by fairly temporary or insignificant events (traffic, feeling rushed, someone complaining, nastiness on social media)。 This is an idea that will stay with me for a long time, I am far too guilty of letting one bad thing out of 99 good things bring me down in a way that is disproportionate to the good stuff!I also connected with the themes on being raised to perform/accomplish for others, to gain value from accomplishments and grades with little attention to learning to find pathways that were filled with meaning and purpose and service for self and others; there is a difference between seeking approval from external sources and finding internal satisfaction and worth from being accepted and seen for who you are。 This resonated with me as it really put into words a lot of why indeed my 30s too were filled with complicated transitions into a job that did have meaning and finding relationships with people who liked me and my struggles and who I was trying to be。I hope many find this book engaging, have some laughs at the process of self discovery and reflection, and fin a moment or two of validation as well。 If readers connect with Ms。 Singh's previous work and her public profile, this is a great way to know her in a new way; if readers found value in Untamed (flawed it might be but I did find that book worked for me), are seeking to understand why life can feel so hard even when filled with good things。。。 I say Be A Triangle and find out what that means for you。 。。。more

I received an eARC of this book from NetGalley and the publisher。“Be a Triangle” is a short self-help book by Lilly Singh。 The author and publishers state that Ms。 Singh is a “world famous actress, author, and creator。” I have to admit, I’d never heard of her before I was offered this book。 So, what is this book about? It’s about letting go of what you think you should do to be happy and instead become comfortable with you。 Ms。 Singh goes through a number of things one should do to “become a triangle,” including why she chose a triangle。 Some of her advice is very sound and things that others recommend, such as meditation (in whatever form one decides to do so), being self-aware, and realizing that roadblocks (or distractions) are always there, but there are healthy ways to get around them, including realizing gratitudes。 I think that if I were a lot younger - say closer to Ms。 Singh’s age - I would’ve gotten a lot more out of this book。 I did like that this book was short。 I also liked the illustrations。 I also liked that she didn’t fill this book with pithy sayings - and also explained why “being a triangle” is a good thing。 I did like that she used examples from her own life - including things she did to become more like a triangle and the last section provides examples。 Ms。 Singh is also clear about why she wrote this book - she needed help。 Not everyone will write a book about those times, and that Ms。 Singh did so - and in a serious yet playful manner - I found good。 Is this a deep book or a replacement for therapy if that is needed? No, but if you need a different way to look at your life, this might help you change some of your thinking to get to a healthier you。 。。。more

The title of this book intrigued me。 Be a triangle; how in the world was I going to do that? Upon reading I found out that it is about having a strong foundation。 I thought the advice was spot on and really made me think about my relationship with myself。 I also loved that the author kept this book short。 This is a book that is true to itself and didn't weigh me down with too many steps and strategies that I have to follow。 The author really stressed meditation and focusing on oneself。 I found t The title of this book intrigued me。 Be a triangle; how in the world was I going to do that? 2/12/22 (Before Reading)It's been a while since I've consistently watched Singh, but seeing as I was a big fan of her videos almost a decade ago and enjoyed her humor, I'm returning to Unicorn Island to see how this winds up。 2/12/22 (Before Reading)It's been a while since I've consistently watched Singh, but seeing as I was a big fan of her videos almost a decade ago and enjoyed her humor, I'm returning to Unicorn Island to see how this winds up。 。。。more
